Indonesia’s Economy Expected to Grow By 7% in 2013: Finance Minister

p style=”text-align: justify;”>Indonesia’s economy could grow by an estimated 7 percent in 2013, Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo predicted on Tuesday.

The minister cited an optimistic outlook on the global economy, which has fluctuated in the past year, but still improved over previous years. As long as the global economy continues to improve, Indonesia could reach a growth target of 6.8 to 7.2 percent next year, Agus said.

“We are certain that those levels will be reached… a growth target of between 6.8 and 7.2 percent is [in line with] the continuously improving world economic conditions,” he said.

The nation needs to set a target and discuss how to reach this goal, Agus said.

“We need to decide [what level of] growth Indonesia wants to reach in 2013,” he said.

The economy grew by 6.4 percent in the second quarter of 2012 over last year’s second quarter figures. Economic growth was most concentrated in Java, where regional growth contributed to 57.5 percent of the second quarter’s rate.
