Garuda Indonesia Officially Recognized as 5-star Airline by Skytrax

Jakarta, GIVnews.com – Garuda Indonesia has officially becomes a 5-star airline as recognized by Skytrax, which is the world’s leading airline and airport review specialist.

The news comes right after its CEO Emirsyah Sattar handed a resignation letter on Thursday (11/12), marking the end of his two year terms in leading the Indonesian flag carrier.

Based on the airline’s press statement released on Friday (12/12), Satar remarked that the achievement signifies an additional milestone that shows a firm recognition of the ongoing transformation in all aspects of the company.

“It is certainly an honor for all of us at Garuda Indonesia, and the achievement becomes even more meaningful as we are now reaching towards the completion of our “Quantum Leap” journey,” said outgoing CEO Emirsyah Satar in the company’s press release.

Under the leadership of Emirsyah Satar, the once flagging Indonesian flag carrier was put under the “Quantum Leap” transformation program, where it focused in fixing, improving and expanding all aspects of the airline.

“For the past years, we have been striving persistently to provide a world-class travelling experience for our passengers and I believe that this accomplishment will serve as further inspiration for us to remain committed and improve even better. Furthermore, we take great pride in establishing our home country more firmly on the international stage by receiving this prestigious recognition,” stated Emirsyah Satar, who had handed his resignation letter on Thursday (11 Dec 2014).

Currently, there are only 7 airlines that are recognized as 5-star by Skytrax. Garuda Indonesia is the first Indonesian airline to be placed in the group, alongside ANA All Nippon Airways (Japan), Asian Airlines (South Korea), Cathay Pacific Airways (Hong Kong), Hainan Airlines (China), Qatar Airways (Qatar), and Singapore Airlines (Singapore).

According to Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted, the 5-star rating recognizes the major turnaround in Garuda Indonesia’s standard of quality, which reflects the hard work done by the company.

“This is recognition of the major turnaround in quality standards at Garuda Indonesia, reflecting the hard work by the airline in recent years, and we delighted to confirm that they are now meeting the 5-Star Airline,” Edward Plaisted said on the press release.

A Skytrax rating is obtained after an all-round assessment of an airline’s onboard and airport product and service. For Garuda, the assessment also takes account of the airline’s planned move to a new base at Terminal 3 Ultimate of Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta Airport in 2015.
