Garuda connects Bali and Beijing with Direct Flight

Flag carrier Garuda Indonesia on Tuesday launched a direct flight service connecting the country’s most popular destination of Denpasar, Bali, to Beijing, in an attempt to expand its networks in China.

Besides Garuda’s newly appointed president director M. Arif Wibowo, Tourism Minister Arief Yahya and Bali deputy governor I Ketut Sudikerta attended the launch ceremony at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali.

“China is one of the most important international markets for Garuda because the number of Chinese outbound travelers is around 100 million. With this big figure, China has become one of our network focuses,” Arif said in a statement obtained by The Jakarta Post.

Garuda flies three times a week from Denpasar to Beijing with an Airbus A330-200 plane that has a total capacity of 222 seats.

It flies every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday to Beijing from Ngurah Rai.

To strengthen its networks in China, Garuda will also offer chartered flights between Denpasar and Manado, North Sulawesi and a number of cities in China such as Chengdu, Chong Qin, Kunming, Xian, and Shenyang during Chinese New Year in 2015.

The Chinese New Year is expected to fall on Feb. 19.

“We are hoping that the opening of the Denpasar–Beijing route will increase the number of travelers from China to Indonesia, especially to Bali,” Arief added.

He also hoped that Chinese tourists would visit other destinations like Lombok, which is near Bali.
