Indonesia, China hold economic dialogue

Beijing (ANTARA News) – Indonesia and China held the first bilateral economic meeting on Monday evening, with the aim to enhance future cooperation between the two countries in the field.

“Indonesia and China have shared a strong relationship for long, even before Indonesias independence. Today, the countries have established a comprehensive strategic partnership,” Indonesian Economic Coordinating Minister Sofyan Djalil said here on Monday.

According to Djalil, initial trade relations between the two nations are developing well. He hopes that cooperation can be enhanced in the future.

The leader of the Chinese delegation from China State Council, Yang Jiechi, stated that an agreement between the two countries to develop improved economic relations was reached during President Joko Widodos visit to China to meet President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation in 2014.

Yang noted that economic cooperation between the countries in the future has good potential.

“With the long-term relationship that we have had, Indonesia and China can continue to boost cooperation in the interests of people of both nations, other regions and the international community,” Yang remarked.

Djalil was accompanied by Indonesian Industry Minister Saleh Husin, Indonesian Ambassador to China and Mongolia Soegeng Rahardjo, and the governor of North Sulawesi, among several officers from the Indonesian Central Bank, the National Development Planning Board, and the State Electricity Company, as well as other officers from related ministries.

The results of the meeting will be entered into documents, which, the two countries agreed, can be used as references for the next economic dialogue.
