Gov`t to Set Lower Gas Price for Industry

TEMPO.COJakarta - Industry Minister Airlangga Hartanto said that investors have been highly anticipating the reduction of natural gas prices for industry. He expects investors to be patient as the discussion is ongoing.

“Coordination will be established first and foremost,” Airlangga told reporters at the Presidential Palace on Monday, October 31, 2016.

Earlier, President Joko Widodo had instructed his subordinates to lower gas prices for industry to under US$6 per MMBTU (million metric British thermal units). Gas prices for industry sector are currently in the range of US$9-12 per MMBTU, depending on the source of gas supply.

President Joko Widodo has set November deadline for the reduction of gas prices. However, the government has yet to give positive signal following the issue.

Airlangga said that he had yet to discuss further the decrease in gas price with both the President and Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignasius Jonan. He expects that more talks will be held in the near future.
