Indonesia Capable of Maintaining Growth: Sri Mulyani

TEMPO.COJakarta – Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said that Indonesia is more capable of maintaining its economic growth than other G20 countries.

“On average, we can maintain the growth level over the last decade compared to other countries in a year,” Sri Mulyani said at the CIMB Forum event held in Jakarta on Thursday, January 26, 2017.

According to Sri Mulyani, 10 percent of the country’s population are still living below the poverty line. However, Sri Mulyani believes that every group can still be able to enjoy the economic growth through equitable development.

Sri Mulyani revealed that many countries are currently struggling with social gap amid the global uncertainty. In terms of the economic growth, Indonesia’s economy is still driven by consumptions.

Sri Mulyani said that social gap in Indonesia does not only occur in Jakarta but also in other regions. Java remains the region with major tax contributor that makes up 80 percent of the total tax revenue. However, Sri Mulyani suggested that the development cannot be centralized in Java, as mandated by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s nine priority program or ‘Nawacita’.

“With a huge population, not only Indonesia can be a market but is also expected to be a [market] player,” Sri Mulyani said.
