Information on Consultative Group on Indonesia

The Ninth Consultative Group Meeting on Indonesia (CGI) will be held on February 1-2, 2000 in Jakarta, at the Bank Indonesia building. It will be chaired by World Bank Vice President for East Asia and the Pacific, Jean-Michel Severino. The head of the Indonesian delegation will be Minister Kwik Kian Gie, Coordinating Minister for Finance, Industry, and Trade.

At the meeting, the CGI donors and the Government will focus on:
· The Government of Indonesia's economic reform program;
· Indonesia's immediate financing needs for the next fiscal year (April 2000-December 2000) and medium-term priorities for development assistance;
· The governance agenda, including the areas of forestry and judicial reform.

This CGI meeting is part of the process of Government engagement with various sectors and stakeholders in Indonesia - including high-level Government consultation with donors, NGOs, and academics on forestry issues; with members of civil society on development priorities; and with members of the private sector and investment community on economic programs and the promotion of a sound business climate.

Vice President Megawati Sukarnoputri will deliver a speech to open the CGI. Materials to be distributed include an Economic Update (Indonesia: Seizing the Opportunity) by the World Bank; the latest Letter of Intent (LOI) with the Government of Indonesia; the BAPPENAS report on Development Priorities and Programs; a paper on the UNDP-World Bank Governance Partnership; and outcomes of the forestry seminar.

Press events include:
· Opening speech by Vice President of Indonesia, Megawati Sukarnoputri - 9 am on February 1, 2000. The speech will be open only to press who are registered with the Palace. Foreign press can submit their names to ines@royalindo.co.id or evita@royalindo.co.id.
· The closing press conference on Wednesday, February 2 - will be open to all press. A press waiting room will be made available on the Ground Floor of the BI Building, Jl. M.H. Thamrin No.2 (please enter from Jl. Budi Kemuliaan).
