WORLD BANK’S NEW PUBLICATION ON INFRASTRUCTURE
| A new Publication from the World Bank Office Jakarta: Averting on Infrastructure Crisis: A Framework for Policy and Action, has been released. Infrastructure played a key role in driving Indonesia’s growth and poverty reduction in the 30 years prior to 1997. But following the crisis, infrastructure suffered badly as development spending was cut and private investment plummeted. As Indonesia now turns its focus from crisis management towards longer-term growth, it is well positioned to reverse this decline. The path ahead will not be easy, but recent improvements in the regulatory and financial situation make real progress now possible. This report provides options rather than blueprint. The main section addresses the crosscutting issues that affect all infrastructure sectors – public management, private participation, financing options, setting priorities, and the need to address corruption. In addition, detailed chapters address electric power; telecommunication; road and the road transport; and water supply and sanitation. This report was produced in close collaboration with Bappenas and
the Committee for Acceleration of Infrastructure Investment (KKPPI).
It was also developed to complement the Government’s report,
Infrastructure in Indonesia: before, during and after the crisis.
Contribution of hundreds of government, private sector, academy and
NGO members who participated in joint KKPPI sector workshops, maker
the report completed. |
