Economy grew 3.66% in 2002

In year 2002, the economy grew 3.66% from the
previous year. Economic growth was reflected in Gross Domestic Product
(GDP) increased to IDR 426.7 trillion during 2002 as compared to 2001 of
IDR 411.7 trillion (in constant price). In current price, GDP increased
from IDR 449.4 trillion in 2001 to IDR 1,610.0 trillion in 2002. In year 2002, all economic sectors expanded with the highest growth occurred in the transportation and communication sectors by 7.83% and followed by electric, gas and clean water by 6.17% Financial, rent and company service sectors showed the growth of 5.55%, building developer sector of 4.11%, processing industry sector of 4.01% mining and excavating of 2.25%, services sector of 1.98% and agriculture sector of 1.74%. In current price, 2002 GDP reflected shifting in the economic structure that was shown by changed of the role of some sectors in the GDP. In 2002, some sectors such as mining, building developer, trade, hotel and restaurant and other services sectors showed a decreasing contribution to GDP as compared to year 2001. On the other hand, agriculture, processing industry, electric, gas and clean water, transportation and communication and financial sectors’ contribution to GDP increased as compared to year 2001. During 2002, average growth of the regional economy was 3% – 4% with the highest growth occurred in South Kalimantan of 5.97% and the lowest growth occurred in Maluku of minus 1.96%. |
