Established in 1968, P.T. International Nickel Indonesia (P.T. INCO) owns and operates a major nickel-producing complex at Soroako, South Sulawesi and is Canada's largest single investment in the South East Asia region. In addition to directly employing almost 2300 people (and 2500 through contractors), P.T. INCO has worked closely with the local government and communities to undertake various community development projects. The diverse range of projects includes construction and renovation of school buildings, provision of educational equipment, installation of street lighting and water systems, support to hospitals and health clinics, promotion of fish farming, assistance with fruit and vegetable agricultural development, and rice field irrigation. PT INCO has also completed a major expansion to its mining and processing operations. Annual capacity will increase from 100 to 160 million pounds of nickel matte, and average unit production costs will be reduced by about 10 percent. Completion of the new dam and additional smelter facilities occurred in the later part of 1999. With the expansion, INCO's investment now exceeds $3 billion.

Talismans’ strategy is focussed on exploitation of existing oil properties and continued development of a strategic position in emerging new gas markets in Indonesia. Production from the Corridor Gas Project began in October 1998 for shipment by pipeline to Duri. The massive gas reserves in the Corridor Block will provide substantial long-term growth in gas sales.
In 2001 Talisman planned for capital spending of $115 million, with planned construction of a new 300 mmcf/d processing plant at Corridor oil for production of 18,000-19,000 bbls/d and natural gas production of 100-105 mmcf/d.
Major priorities in 2002 are the completion of construction of their new gas processing facilities and continued delineation of the Suban gas discovery.
Talisman is also aparticipant in the joint Venture consortium which is building a gas pipeline to Singapore

TransCanada Pipelines opened a representative office in February 1996 and subsequently merged in 1998 with Nova who had their own Jakarta office. In addition, through its 1998 merger with Nova, TCPL inherited a roughly $3 million U.S. O&M contract on the gas pipeline linking the Corridor gas field in south Sumatra to the Duri steam flood to the north. This contract was renewed in 2001.
