POLICE HAND OVER NEW EVIDENCE IN MUNIR CASE
Tempo Interactive - April 13, 2007TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Indonesian police will hand over new evidence to the Attorney General's Office today (04/13) in order to investigate the murder of human rights activist Munir. The evidence includes a forensic laboratory test sample of CCL Tequika , Seattle, US; testimony of a key witness, eye-witness to the murderer at Changi Airport, Singapore; and a letter.
“In a laboratory in Seattle, the poison was scientifically tested and was determined as to how it was put into the body, ,” said Head of Criminal Investigation Department at the Indonesian Police Headquarters Commissioner General Bambang Hendarso Danuri, yesterday (04/12), in Jakarta.
Bambang has refused to explain the contents of the letter. However, the test result from Seattle’s forensic laboratory found arsenic inside Munir's body. From the forensic test, police analyzed the amount of arsenic in Munir's body and counted down the intake.
Through two pieces of evidence, police set up three crime scenes: plotting point, executing spot, and place where the victim died. “>From the investigation, the poison was deposited in the body in Singapore,” he said.
According to Bambang, the police have cooperated with the Criminal Investigation Department of Singapore for a reconstruction. The result was that, he said, a witness saw Munir with someone prior to his boarding at Changi Airport. “I believe that the 340 (murder) took place in that spot,” he said.
Police have also attained the murder motif. Nonetheless, Bambang refused to explain. “It will be uncovered in the court session,” he said.
Police are planning to summon three suspects within a short while, including IS and RA—not Rameglia Anwar as Tempo reported yesterday. Chief of Indonesian Police General Sutanto denied that both persons were suspects of the falsification of Pollycarpus Budihari's mandatory letter. “It was a false. It was an order to expedite Pollycarpus to do his job,” he said.
In addition, Munir's widow Suciwati acknowledged that she had met Bambang Hendarso. Suciwati was informed that police are keeping one suspect and will develop the investigation by this week. “Head of the Criminal Investigation Department did not mention the institution. However, it was not limited to Garuda,” she said.
