EC PRESIDENT TO HELP LIFT BAN ON RI FLIGHTS TO EUROPE
The Jakarta Post - November 23, 2007JAKARTA (Antara): Visiting European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso has said he will help speed up the lifting of the ban on Indonesian airline flights to the European Union.
At a joint press conference with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono after a meeting at the State Palace on Friday, Barroso said he respected Indonesia's efforts to improve the technical standards of the safety of flights at home and to Europe.
President Yudhoyono said the government asked the European Commission to lift the ban, which was imposed in June.
The President also expressed hope that aviation cooperation between Indonesia and Europe would soon be back to normal, with Indonesia having taken the first step by improving its safety standards.
The President said the government would continue the effort by consulting and working closely with the EU on technical matters. (**)
